Medical Association of Athens investigates Kolonaki clinic death
The Medical Association of Athens (ISA) has launched a disciplinary investigation into two doctors following the death of Giorgos Mazonakis at a private clinic in Kolonaki. The incident has raised serious questions regarding the legality of medical procedures performed at the facility.
ISA President Giorgos Patoulis stated that the clinic was licensed only as an internal medicine practice. During a recent inspection, a three-member committee discovered two plasmapheresis machines that were not declared in the clinic's official equipment registry. Patoulis noted that previous unannounced inspections in 2024 and 2025 had failed to detect these machines, suggesting a possible deception of regulatory mechanisms.
The two physicians involved include one specialist internist and one doctor without a declared medical specialty. The ISA is pursuing administrative sanctions and may recommend the suspension of their medical licenses to the Panhellenic Medical Association. Additionally, the ISA has declared its support for the prosecution in the ongoing criminal proceedings related to the patient's death.
