Athens municipality rolls out free summer cultural festival and health screening program

The Athens municipality’s Cultural, Sports and Youth Organization is running a free‑entry summer festival from 6 to 12 July 2026, transforming 50 sites across seven municipal districts into open‑air stages for concerts, theatre, stand‑up comedy and family activities. Events include musical performances in public squares, a multilingual paper‑theatre adaptation of Antigone, and a stand‑up show by local comedian Ηρα Κατσούδα.

Simultaneously, the municipal health department is offering a month‑long series of free preventive services in July. Women aged 40‑69 can receive mammograms without appointment, rapid tests for HIV, hepatitis B/C and syphilis are provided anonymously in several neighbourhoods, a webinar on post‑40 heart‑health advice is scheduled for 16 July, and a lifeguard‑led rescue and first‑aid training course will be held on 18 July at the municipal swimming pool. All activities are coordinated with local NGOs and medical partners and are open to all residents.
