Greece schedules widespread power outages on June 29, affecting Attica and Thessaloniki

On Monday 29 June 2026 the Greek utility DEHDE will carry out maintenance and network‑upgrade works that will cause temporary electricity cuts in several municipalities of the Attica region and in parts of Thessaloniki. In Attica, outages are planned from 08:00 to 11:30 (or until 12:00 in some areas) affecting streets such as Ζυγά, Μονά, Φυλής and many others in the municipalities of Athens, Voula, Kallithea, Alimos, Glyfada, Chaidari, Marousi, and several suburbs. In Thessaloniki, the cuts will run from 08:00 to 12:00 in the Lagkadas and Chrysavgi districts. DEHDE advises residents to treat all cables as live and to avoid any contact with the network during the work.

The scheduled outages coincide with reports of heavy traffic congestion in the Athens metropolitan area. Drivers face long delays on major arteries including the Κηφισός, Αθηνών, Μεσογείων, Καρέα and the Athens‑Thessaloniki (Αττική) highway, as well as on the Κηφισός boulevard's up‑ and down‑slopes. The increased load on roads is attributed to the ongoing works and the temporary loss of power to traffic‑control systems.

Both the electricity interruptions and the resulting traffic slow‑downs are expected to be resolved by early afternoon on the same day.
