Athens Stock Exchange rises as Coca-Cola HBC leads gains
The Athens Stock Exchange showed upward momentum, with the General Index reaching 2,690 points, a 0.54% increase. This rise was driven by gains in Coca-Cola HBC and Viohalco, which saw increases of over 2% and 5% respectively. Other notable gainers included Metlen, DEH, GEK TERNAs, and Elvalhalcor.
In contrast, the energy sector faced significant declines. Both HELLENiQ Energy and Motor Oil dropped nearly 5% due to sector-wide risk aversion. This downturn is attributed to falling oil prices and market speculation regarding potential government intervention in fuel prices to alleviate pressure on consumers. While Goldman Sachs had previously maintained a positive outlook on HELLENiQ Energy, the market appears to be pricing in the risk of political measures affecting future refinery profits.
