Athens Stock Exchange Rises to Near‑Yearly High on Bank and Blue‑Chip Gains
The Athens Stock Exchange closed with the General Index up 1.41% to 2,385.6 points, approaching the yearly high of 2,407 points. Strong buying in blue‑chip stocks and the banking sector drove the rally, supported by a positive market mood after the de‑escalation of tensions in the Middle East and lower oil prices.
Bank stocks led the advance, with Alpha Bank posting the biggest gain among banks (+3.31%), followed by Eurobank, Piraeus Bank and National Bank. Heavy‑weight non‑bank shares also added to the rise, notably Lamda Development (+3.93%), Allwyn (+3.50%), Metlen (+3.49%), Coca‑Cola HBC (+2.62%) and DEI (+2.31%). Turnover reached roughly €336 million, with a volume of 47.2 million shares, indicating heightened investor participation. ADMEH Investments traded at historic highs ahead of its first‑quarter results and a planned capital increase.
A minority of stocks fell, including Cenergy Holdings, Elvalhalcor, Viohalco, ELPE and Aktor. Overall, 65 shares rose, 43 declined and 16 were unchanged, underscoring the market’s broad but uneven upward momentum.
