Greece reports market growth, retail price cuts, and wildfire warnings

Greece is seeing significant activity across various sectors. In the financial markets, the Athens Stock Exchange (Euronext Athens) has demonstrated volatility but generally positive trends. The General Index recently surpassed the 2,600 mark, driven by recovery in banking stocks such as Alpha Bank and Eurobank, as well as strong performance from Metlen. Despite some profit-taking and concerns regarding oil prices due to Middle East tensions, the market has seen weekly gains of approximately 1.8%.

In the retail sector, a national initiative is set to begin on August 31, involving price reductions on 916 products, including 130 school-related items, to help mitigate consumer costs.

Public health and safety concerns are also prominent. West Nile Virus cases are increasing in Attica, with experts warning that outbreaks could last until October; six deaths have been recorded. Additionally, authorities have issued a "Red Code" for several regions, including Attica and Crete, due to a very high risk of wildfires caused by heat and strong winds. In terms of summer health, specialists are advising caution regarding seasonal allergies and toxic reactions from jellyfish or insect stings.
