Athens Stock Exchange slips modestly as banks drag index lower

The Athens Stock Exchange ended the session with the General Index at 2,470.95 points, a marginal decline of 0.07%. Bank stocks led the downturn, with the bank index falling 0.84% to 2,799.38 points, while the FTSE 25 slipped 0.13% to 6,269.38 points.

Trading value reached €278.73 million, of which €33.8 million stemmed from pre‑arranged deals, and total volume hit 40.73 million shares. Sixty‑three stocks changed direction: 53 rose, 73 fell and 74 remained unchanged. Notable movers included Coca‑Cola HBC up 2.8% to €55, OTE gaining 1.06% to €19.11, and DEI (ΔΕΗ) generating €41.9 million in turnover while holding at €23. Bank shares such as Eurobank, National Bank, Alpha Bank and Piraeus all posted losses, while Cyprus Bank rose 1.43%. Mid‑cap firms like OLP, Kri Kri and Alter Ego posted double‑digit percentage gains.

Overall market sentiment was mixed, with buyers trying to push the index toward the 2,500‑point level, but sellers regained control in the final minutes, leaving the market with a small net loss.
