Athens Stock Exchange steadies near 17‑year high as banks and ADME draw investor focus

The Athens Stock Exchange continued trading at record levels not seen in 17 years, with the General Index edging up 0.01 % to 2,475.68 points. Trading volume reached €4.84 million, and the market capitalisation stood at roughly €182 billion.

Banking shares showed modest gains – Eurobank rose 1 %, Alpha Bank 0.5 %, and Piraeus Bank 0.2 % – while the state‑controlled ADME announced a €1 billion capital increase. The public offering, targeting €530 million, is set to close on 18 June, with demand already three times the target amount.

Analysts noted that the subdued global environment, including falling oil prices and the signing of a U.S.–Iran peace agreement that could fully open the Strait of Hormuz, supports risk‑taking in equities. Attention also remains on the Federal Reserve’s policy guidance, as markets await indications on future rate moves.
