Athens Suburban Railway restores service after Aspropyrgos fire
Service on the Athens Suburban Railway is gradually returning to normal following a fire near the railway lines in the Aspropyrgos area. The incident, which began on Tuesday evening, forced authorities to immediately suspend rail traffic on the Nea Peramos – Ano Liosia section and cut electricity supply on the Loutropyrgos – Ano Liosia segment for safety reasons.
The fire caused a domino effect of delays and mandatory schedule modifications. At one point, train 2301 (Kiato – Piraeus) was immobilized at Nea Peramos station, while train 2303 was held at Corinth station. Hellenic Train coordinated with the infrastructure manager, OSE, and relevant authorities to resolve the situation.
Hellenic Train has since confirmed that electricity and rail traffic in the affected sections have been fully restored, allowing schedules to return to their regular rhythms.
