Athens suburban railway fire disruption

Overview

A fire near the railway tracks in the Aspropyrgos area caused a temporary suspension of Athens suburban railway services. The incident, which began on a Tuesday evening, forced authorities to suspend rail traffic on the Nea Peramos – Ano Liosia section and cut the electricity supply on the Loutropyrgos – Ano Liosia segment for safety reasons.

The fire caused significant disruptions, including the immobilization of train 2301 (Kiato – Piraeus) at Nea Peramos station and the holding of train 2303 at Corinth station. These events led to various delays and mandatory schedule modifications.

Hellenic Train coordinated with the infrastructure manager, OSE, and relevant authorities to resolve the situation. Service is now gradually returning to normal, as electricity and rail traffic in the affected sections have been fully restored, allowing schedules to return to their regular rhythms.
