Athens traffic congestion causes major delays on key motorways

Heavy traffic congestion and significant delays are affecting major road arteries across the Athens metropolitan area. Kifissos Avenue is experiencing major delays in both directions, with slow-moving traffic reported from Peristeri to Nea Ionia.

On the Attiki Odos motorway, delays exceeding 30 minutes are occurring in the direction of the airport. Other notable congestion points include Kifissias Avenue, Mesogeion Avenue, and Alexandra Avenue. In the city center, traffic is heavy around Syntagma and Vasilissis Sofias.

Specific incidents have contributed to the gridlock, including a vehicle breakdown on Kifissos Avenue near Vikela Street and a four-vehicle collision on Kareas Avenue, which has impacted traffic flow toward the city center.
