Athens Patisia apartment fire kills 89‑year‑old woman, injures husband

A fire broke out on the afternoon of 15 July in a ground‑floor apartment on Skia‑thou Street in the Patisia district of Athens. The blaze trapped an 89‑year‑old woman, who was found dead from severe burns, and her 92‑year‑old husband, who was rescued and taken to Hospital Elpís with serious respiratory problems. Fourteen to fifteen firefighters, five fire engines and a special ladder truck fought the fire, while police blocked the street and began investigations into the cause, which remains undetermined.

A separate incident occurred on 14 July in Upper Patisia, where a fire started in a third‑floor apartment at the intersection of Herakleous Avenue and Laskaratu Street. Eighteen firefighters with five vehicles and a ladder truck responded; no casualties were reported, but the apartment and the units below suffered extensive damage, as shown in video footage released by the fire service.
