Athletes and fans criticize controversial MLB postseason advertisements
A series of controversial advertisements airing during Major League Baseball postseason broadcasts has drawn widespread criticism from athletes and fans. The backlash centers on suggestive commercials, including a campaign for the sports prediction platform Novig featuring actress Sydney Sweeney, and a Ro Sparks advertisement featuring Megan Fox.
Female athletes, including Olympic swimmer Ariarne Titmus and British sprinter Amy Hunt, have criticized the Novig campaign for its portrayal of women. Critics argue that using minimally clothed women to market sports platforms disregards the professional achievements of female competitors and undermines progress in women’s sports.
In addition to concerns regarding gender representation, MLB players and fans have raised objections regarding the appropriateness of such content for family audiences. Dodgers outfielder Alex Call expressed frustration on social media, questioning how parents can justify watching games with children when suggestive imagery is aired during broadcasts.
