Atlantic Forest conservation initiatives highlighted in Brazil

Conservation initiatives for the Atlantic Forest were highlighted through recent environmental events in Brazil. At the Simbioma 2026 symposium in Santa Teresa, Espírito Santo, the Instituto Últimos Refúgios (IUR) presented various biodiversity projects. Their exhibition focused on aquatic ecosystems, mangroves, and marsupials, utilizing interactive tools and educational materials to promote environmental awareness.

In Goiás, the Reservas da Biosfera da Mata Atlântica (RBMA) concluded the first phase of a project by hosting an environmental education course at the Parque Estadual da Mata Atlântica. This event marked the establishment of the first meliponary (native bee enclosure) in a state park in Goiás. The initiative, supported by the Government of Goiás and ADM Cares, has expanded across six Brazilian states to promote meliponiculture as a tool for ecosystem balance and conservation.
