Brazil forest conservation and management initiatives

Environmental initiatives in Brazil are focusing on both grassroots conservation and high-level legislative monitoring. In the Atlantic Forest, organizations like the Instituto Últimos Refúgios (IUR) have promoted biodiversity through projects targeting aquatic ecosystems and mangroves. Additionally, the Reservas da Biosfera da Mata Atlântica (RBMA) has expanded meliponiculture—the keeping of native bees—as a conservation tool across six states, including the establishment of a native bee enclosure in a Goiás state park.

Parallel efforts are advancing forest management and governance. The Observatório do Código Florestal (OCF) is working to update the Forest Code Thermometer (TCF), a tool used to track the implementation of forest legislation through data analysis. Meanwhile, the FSC Brasil General Assembly in Belém has brought together various chambers to coordinate responsible forest management, emphasizing the need to integrate local realities, particularly within the Amazon biome, into international commitments.
