atNorth approved for 25 billion DKK datacenter and greenhouse project

The Varde Municipal Council has approved the planning basis for a major datacenter and greenhouse project located north of Ølgod at Krageris. The project is led by atNorth, a company owned by the Canadian Pension Plan and the American firm Equinix.

Valued at 25 billion DKK, the development will span 174 hectares. The plan includes a 225,000 square meter datacenter and 475,000 square meters of greenhouses. In an effort to utilize resources efficiently, excess heat from the datacenter will be used to heat the greenhouses, allowing for year-round vegetable cultivation.

Construction is expected to be completed by 2030. Selected Group will be responsible for the construction and operation of the greenhouse gardening facility. Varde Mayor Sarah Andersen stated that such projects are essential for rural development by creating new jobs and encouraging settlement in the area.
