AT&T $177 million data breach settlement receives final judicial approval
A federal judge has granted final approval to a $177 million settlement involving AT&T following two separate data breaches disclosed in 2024. The settlement aims to compensate millions of current and former customers whose personal information was exposed.
The first incident, which involved data appearing on the dark web, is linked to a $149 million fund. Impacted individuals may be eligible for up to $5,000 for documented losses. The second incident involved an unauthorized download from a third-party cloud platform provided by Snowflake Inc., supported by a $28 million fund with potential compensation up to $2,500 for documented losses.
Most eligible claimants are expected to receive standard cash payments ranging from $6.50 to $40. The distribution process is scheduled to begin after the appeals period expires around November 8, 2026, with payments potentially arriving as late as early January 2027. The settlement does not include an admission of liability or wrongdoing by AT&T.
