AT&T data breach class action settlement

Overview

A federal judge has granted final judicial approval to a $177 million settlement involving AT&T following two separate data breaches disclosed in 2024. The breaches involved the personal information of millions of current and former customers, with some data dating back to 2019.

The first incident, linked to a $149 million fund, involved data appearing on the dark web. The second incident involved an unauthorized download from a third-party cloud platform provided by Snowflake Inc., supported by a $28 million fund.

While most eligible claimants are expected to receive standard cash payments between $6.50 and $40, individuals with documented losses may be eligible for up to $5,000 for the first breach or up to $2,500 for the second.

As the settlement progresses, updated estimates for valid claimants suggest payments of approximately “$39 to $40” for the first incident and between “$6.50 and $8.10” for the second. Following the expiration of the appeals period around November 8, 2026, the distribution process is scheduled to begin. Payments are expected to be distributed within 60 days, potentially arriving as late as early January 2027. The settlement does not include an admission of liability or wrongdoing by AT&T.
