AT&T and Amazon advance major consumer settlements

Major consumer settlements involving AT&T and Amazon are progressing. A judge has finalized a $177 million settlement for AT&T following two data breaches in 2024. Eligible claimants who submitted valid requests may receive payments distributed across three levels: approximately $39 to $40 for the first incident, and between $6.50 and $8.10 for the second incident. Payments are expected to be distributed by early January 2027.

Separately, Amazon is issuing refunds to eligible Prime customers following a $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regarding deceptive enrollment and cancellation practices. While the initial settlement capped refunds at $51, a revised order has increased the maximum payout to $200.

To qualify for the Amazon refunds, customers must have been located in the United States and experienced issues with enrollment or cancellation between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025. Eligible users who used 20 or fewer Prime benefits in any 12-month period will receive payments automatically via check or electronic transfer.
