Attendorn, Germany launches free community fruit‑picking program

The city of Attendorn (Germany) is offering residents and visitors the chance to harvest apples, pears and other seasonal fruit from municipal orchard sites at no charge. The initiative aims to prevent fruit from going to waste and to provide free, locally grown produce.

City environmental officer Chiara Sopart explained that the trees “carry a rich harvest each year – it would be a shame to let it go unused.” Pick‑up locations include several sites along Bremger Weg, the Petersburg area, Dünschede’s Obstallee, and others. Participants are asked to respect the trees by not climbing or breaking branches, ensuring the orchards remain healthy for future seasons.

The program is presented as both a food‑waste reduction measure and a way for citizens to enjoy fresh, regional fruit while saving money.
