Germany free fruit programs

German municipalities are expanding public fruit initiatives. Attendorn launched a free community fruit‑picking scheme that lets residents and visitors harvest apples, pears and other seasonal fruit from municipal orchards, aiming to curb food waste and provide free local produce. Later the same day, other towns announced free fruit‑tree planting programs for 2026. Pforzheim’s Environmental Office will distribute low‑cost bare‑root fruit trees to orchard meadow owners, while the Bavarian Rural Development Agency in Heroldsberg will supply up to 55 fruit trees at no charge to private individuals, clubs, firms and farmers, requiring a modest land allocation and a long‑term maintenance commitment. Together, these actions reflect a broader German effort to preserve historic orchard landscapes, enhance biodiversity, and make locally grown fruit accessible to the public.
