Attica region completes rollout of 388 traffic red‑light cameras

The Attica Region in Greece has finished installing 388 new traffic cameras at high‑risk junctions. The devices record red‑light violations around the capital’s road network, capturing six photos and a video for each offense. Evidence is automatically forwarded to the Digital Confirmation System for Road Violations and to the Greek Police, with electronic notices sent via the gov.gr citizen portal and wallet. Unpaid fines are forwarded to the tax authority.

In addition to red‑light detection, the expanded camera network includes AI‑enabled units that can spot seat‑belt non‑use, helmet violations, and mobile‑phone use while driving. On Syngrou Avenue, two “average speed section control” cameras spaced about 1.3 km apart measure a vehicle’s travel time over the segment, allowing enforcement of the overall speed limit. Speeding above the limit by up to 20 km/h carries a €150 fine.
