Attica launches greening and energy upgrade programs

The Attica Region, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Energy and the Green Fund, has launched several environmental and energy efficiency initiatives across the Attica prefecture.

The ‘Green Breaths for Attica’ program, valued at 60.4 million euros, involves 13 interventions across various municipalities. These projects aim to improve urban greenery and public infrastructure, including the bioclimatic upgrade of the Theatro Vrachon, the expansion of bicycle paths in Vrilissia, and the renovation of public squares and parks in municipalities such as Paiania, Elefsina, and Rafina-Piceri.

Simultaneously, the ‘ENERGΩ for the Municipality’ initiative is funding the energy upgrade of schools and municipal buildings. A recent allocation of approximately 6.56 million euros covers six municipalities: Vyronas, Elefsina, Moschato-Taavros, Megara, Nea Filadelfeia-Nea Chalkidona, and Kaisariani. These works, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, target over 31,000 square meters of space.

Planned improvements include thermal insulation, window replacements, and the installation of high-efficiency heating and cooling systems, as well as smart energy management tools. The goal is to reduce energy consumption, lower operational costs, and decrease greenhouse gas emissions to support the region's transition toward climate neutrality.
