Attica Region Advances 47‑Road Bike‑Lane Project
The Attica regional authority has issued an invitation for proposals to build the northern segment of the Kefisia‑Gazi cycling axis, converting 47 roads into bike lanes. The project, overseen by Governor Nikos Charadlias, spans about 17 km, links municipalities including Athens, Heraklion, Nea Ionia, Marousi and others, and is budgeted at €6 million. The southern segment of the route has been operational since 2015, and the new development aims to encourage daily cycling and integrate with other local bike‑lane networks. Proposals must be submitted by 30 September 2026, after which procurement and construction phases will follow.
The initiative is part of the broader “ATTIKI” programme to promote sustainable transport in the region, with the converted lanes expected to change commuting habits across the Greater Athens area.
