Attica Roots Festival launches in Athens with Mode Plagal concert and adds Demetra Galani performance

The new Attica Roots Festival opened on 25 June at the Roman Agora in Athens with a concert by the jazz‑fusion group Mode Plagal. Hundreds of attendees, including Attica regional governor Nikos Chardalias, enjoyed a programme that fused Greek folk traditions with jazz, funk, blues and afro‑beat. The festival, running from 25 June to 25 July, will present nine free concerts in historic venues across Attica, supported by NextStep Media, Iefimerida.gr and Mega TV.

The next scheduled event is on 28 June at the Sunion archaeological site, where singer Demetra Galani will perform works of Vasilis Tsitsanis together with the New Ionian Ensemble and the Greek Byzantine Choir. The Sunion concert is also free to the public and forms part of the festival’s aim to bring traditional Greek music to contemporary audiences.
