Attorney General Todd Blanche delivers law-and-order speech at RNC convention

U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche delivered a law-and-order address at the Republican National Committee midterm convention in Dallas, Texas. During his speech, Blanche emphasized the Trump administration’s focus on public safety and border security as central pillars for the upcoming November midterm elections.

Blanche praised President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, stating that their leadership demonstrates that societal order and economic prosperity are linked. He issued a warning to those committing acts of violence, stating, “To evil men and women in this country, know this: President Trump will hold you accountable.”

The appearance has drawn significant criticism regarding the traditional independence of the Department of Justice. Former Attorney General Eric Holder described the decision to speak at a political convention as “unprecedented” and “disgraceful,” noting that Attorneys General typically avoid political speeches. In response to ethics concerns and complaints from House Judiciary Committee Democrats, the Department of Justice stated that Blanche’s appearance was in a personal capacity and had received ethics approval.
