Auchan to rebrand numerous French supermarkets as Intermarché

Auchan is undergoing a significant restructuring of its retail footprint in France, transitioning numerous supermarkets to the Intermarché brand. This move follows a national agreement between Auchan Retail and the Groupement Les Mousquetaires.

In the Nord and Pas-de-Calais regions, ten Auchan stores—including locations in Mouvaux, Lens, and Valenciennes—will transition to franchise models between September 2026 and April 2027. The Autingues location is scheduled to be sold directly to Intermarché on February 28, 2027.

In the Yvelines department, fourteen Auchan supermarkets are slated to change branding between September 2026 and April 2027. While these local stores transition, Auchan intends to retain its 117 hypermarkets exceeding 2,500 square meters.

The broader divestment strategy involves over 260 stores ranging from 400 to 2,500 square meters. Of these, 72 will be sold directly to Mousquetaires members, while 167 will join A+Super, an entity owned by Auchan but operated as a franchise under the Intermarché or Netto banners. This operation was validated by the French Competition Authority in July 2026.
