Auckland City Rail Link set to open to the public

Auckland’s City Rail Link (CRL), a major infrastructure project, is set to open to the public on Sunday, September 13. The project represents a significant turning point for the city’s transit capabilities, following years of construction that impacted local businesses and urban landscapes.

During the official opening ceremony, Minister of Transport Chris Bishop described the project as a moment of growth for Auckland, acknowledging the contributions of engineers, planners, and specialists. He noted that the project concludes a long history of transit proposals in the region dating back to the early 20th century.

The new underground railway system is expected to improve accessibility across various parts of the city, connecting key hubs such as the overhauled Waitematā station. The project, costing approximately $5.5 billion, aims to provide a more efficient commuting experience and open up new possibilities for local commerce, dining, and tourism.
