Auckland transport infrastructure reaches City Rail Link milestones

Auckland Transport has reached significant milestones in the development of the City Rail Link (CRL) infrastructure. The Te Waihorotiu station, set to become New Zealand’s busiest rail hub, recently concluded its ‘First Look’ event series, which drew over 13,000 visitors. The station is expected to officially open to passengers in less than three weeks.

In conjunction with the CRL preparations, pedestrian rail level crossing upgrades are nearing completion. The opening of two new pedestrian bridges at Te Mahia and Takaanini stations means all pedestrian rail level crossings on the Eastern Line and the Southern Line north of Papakura have been removed. The Te Mahia bridge is now open, while the Takaanini bridge is scheduled to open on 12 September.

These upgrades, supported by funding from the Government and Auckland Council, are designed to allow for more frequent and efficient train services by separating pedestrians and cyclists from the rail corridor. Over the last decade, 16 rail level crossings have been closed or replaced as part of these safety and mobility improvements.
