Audi China-exclusive electric models enter European market via parallel imports

Independent importers have begun bringing China-exclusive electric vehicles, developed through a partnership between Audi and SAIC, into the European market via parallel imports. These models, branded with the name ‘AUDI’ in capital letters rather than the traditional four-ring logo, include the E5 Sportback sedan and the E7X SUV.

Despite additional costs for freight, customs, and individual homologation, these vehicles are being offered at prices significantly lower than official Audi models in Europe. For example, the E5 Sportback can be priced roughly 28,000 euros lower than the comparable S6 e-tron. The E7X SUV also presents a price advantage over the SQ6 e-tron.

However, experts and industry federations warn of significant risks for European buyers. Key concerns include the lack of technical training and spare parts within the official European service network, as well as software incompatibility. Because the vehicles are designed for the Chinese digital ecosystem, navigation and autonomous driving features calibrated for Chinese road conditions may not function effectively in Europe.
