Audi prepares plug‑in hybrid RS Q5 high‑performance SUV

Audi is testing prototypes of a first‑ever RS‑badged Q5, spotted in camouflaged form on European roads. The upcoming model will carry the RS performance badge and feature a plug‑in hybrid powertrain that combines a twin‑turbo V6 with an electric motor, delivering roughly 630 hp (470 kW) and 825 Nm of torque. A 25.9 kWh battery will power the hybrid system, adding weight that could make the RS Q5 one of Audi Sport’s heaviest SUVs.

The RS Q5 follows the long‑standing SQ5 and expands Audi’s high‑performance SUV range, previously limited to larger models such as the RS Q8. Development of the RS Q5 is linked to Volkswagen Group’s broader strategy, including a planned reduction of less profitable models and the future Porsche Macan, which is expected to share underpinnings with the Q5. Spy sightings also hinted at other upcoming Audi Sport models, including the SQ9 and a revived RS 6 sedan.

While official specifications and launch dates remain unconfirmed, the RS Q5 is projected to enter the market around 2027‑2028, positioning Audi against rivals such as the BMW X3 M and Mercedes‑AMG GLC 63.
