Audi sues importer over China-specific AUDI electric vehicle imports

Audi has initiated legal proceedings against the importer Auto China to block the parallel import of electric vehicles into Germany. The models in question, the E5 Sportback and E7X, were developed through a joint venture between Audi and SAIC specifically for the Chinese market under the new brand name AUDI (written in all capital letters without the traditional four-ring logo).

While these vehicles are intended exclusively for China, Auto China has begun importing, homologating, and offering them to customers in Germany. Audi is taking action to protect its rights, citing concerns that these imports could cannibalize sales of its official e-tron models.

Furthermore, the automaker highlighted potential technical and practical risks for consumers. Because these AUDI models are not part of Audi’s official European lineup, owners may face significant challenges regarding software updates, diagnostic compatibility, and access to the official service and parts network.
