Audi takes legal action against importer of Chinese electric models

Audi has initiated legal action against Auto China, a German importer that was offering Chinese-market electric vehicles for sale in Germany. The models in question, the E5 Sportback and the E7X, are produced through Audi’s joint venture with SAIC Motor in China.

These specific vehicles utilize a distinct branding—the name ‘AUDI’ in capital letters without the traditional four-ring logo—designed exclusively for the Chinese market. Audi stated that these models do not possess European type approval, which raises concerns regarding official servicing and spare parts availability. According to an Audi spokesperson, official Audi dealers outside of China cannot perform maintenance on these vehicles as they are classified as foreign cars.

The importer was offering the vehicles at prices significantly higher than their Chinese counterparts but lower than official Audi electric models sold in Europe. Following the legal steps taken by Audi, the listings for both models have been removed from the importer’s website.
