Audi unveils curved digital OLED taillights for Q9
Audi has introduced third-generation digital OLED technology for the Q9, marking the industry's first application of three-dimensionally curved digital OLED panels in a production vehicle. Unlike traditional flat lamps placed behind glass, the Q9's light-emitting panels are curved to follow the vehicle's body contours.
The system consists of six panels—three on each side—comprising 512 independently controllable zones. This configuration is designed to improve visibility from side angles, particularly in parking lots or intersections. The technology utilizes an extremely thin 0.1mm glass substrate and a 1mm thick OLED layer to achieve the necessary flexibility.
Beyond aesthetics, the lights serve safety functions by displaying warning symbols to following drivers during accidents or malfunctions. The vehicle also offers up to eight distinct digital light signatures and a direction indicator projection feature that displays turning signals on the road surface.
