Audi Q9 flagship SUV and curved OLED technology debut

Overview

Audi has unveiled the Q9, the largest SUV in the company’s history and the new flagship of its Q range. The vehicle features a world premiere in automotive lighting: third-generation digital OLED technology utilizing three-dimensionally curved panels that follow the bodywork’s curvature.

The lighting system employs six ultra-thin glass panels, each only 0.1mm thick, which can bend with a radius of up to 200mm. These panels consist of 512 independently controllable segments or zones designed to enhance safety and communication through active light signatures and expanded turn signals. The system can display warning symbols to following drivers and integrates with Digital Matrix LED headlights, which utilize micro-LED technology, to project direction indicators onto the road surface.

Produced in Bratislava, the Q9 offers seven seats across three rows. The interior includes a 14.5-inch MMI display, a 12.3-inch driver display, and a passenger screen, with an infotainment system based on Android Automotive featuring a ChatGPT-powered voice assistant. Initial engine options include a 3.0 V6 TDI diesel with MHEV plus technology, producing either 245 hp or 299 hp. Orders are currently open, with the first deliveries expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.
