Audi urges Formula 1 to keep 2027 engine power split unchanged

Audi’s chief Gernot Döllner said the German manufacturer prefers to retain the current 50‑50 split between internal‑combustion and electric power for the 2027 Formula 1 season. The stance was voiced during talks in Monaco as the FIA considers possible tweaks to the power‑unit regulations introduced for 2026.

Audi argues that sweeping changes would strain its budget and divert resources from other development programmes. Döllner stressed the need for stability, noting that optimisation of the existing drivetrain is a higher priority than a major redesign. The company’s view aligns with concerns from other manufacturers, while some drivers, such as Max Verstappen, have criticised the hybrid era for reducing on‑track aggression. The FIA is expected to finalise the rule package in the coming weeks.
