Audible introduces AI-powered interactive storytelling

Audible has announced the launch of ‘Interactive Stories’, a new feature utilizing generative AI to allow listeners to engage in real-time conversations with characters. The debut experience will accompany the release of an Audible Original full-cast adaptation of Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’. In this interactive segment, listeners can speak to the character Renfield, who will assign them specific roles, goals, and stakes.

The ‘Dracula’ audiobook adaptation, directed by Mary Lambert, features a full cast including Jonathan Bailey as Dracula and Maggie Gyllenhaal as Dr. Van Helsing. To assist listeners with complex narratives, Audible is also introducing a ‘Character Guide’ that provides real-time visual identification of speakers and spoiler-free character cards.

Following the ‘Dracula’ release, Audible plans to launch another Interactive Story set in the world of the upcoming audio novel ‘Exoplanet’, created with author Benjamin Percy. The interactive features are expected to roll out as a beta release later this fall.
