Audible introduction of AI-powered audiobook features
Overview
Audible has announced the introduction of several AI-driven features intended to enhance listener immersion and engagement. These tools include ‘Interactive Stories’, which utilize generative AI to allow listeners to engage in real-time conversations with fictional characters, and a ‘Character Guide’ that provides real-time visual identification of speakers and spoiler-free information.
The interactive storytelling feature is debuting with an Audible Original adaptation of Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’, where listeners can interact with the character Renfield. A third feature, ‘Visual Explorer’, is also being introduced to provide images and visual data regarding story settings and significant scenes.
While the ‘Dracula’ adaptation features a full cast including Jonathan Bailey and Maggie Gyllenhaal, the new capabilities are currently in beta testing with limited deployment in the United States and the United Kingdom. Future applications for these tools are planned for works such as George Orwell’s ‘1984’ and the upcoming audio novel ‘Exoplanet’.
