Audiencia Nacional seeks to take over Ceuta official investigation

The Audiencia Nacional has requested to take over the legal proceedings against the Government Delegate in Ceuta, Miguel Ángel Pérez Triano, regarding his management of the mass migration event on July 30 and 31. Judge María Tardón issued a providencia asking the local Ceuta court to consider stepping aside so the investigation can be centralized within the national court.

The Ceuta Prosecutor's Office has formally supported this move, arguing that the allegations against Pérez Triano are not isolated incidents but part of the same broader operation already under investigation by the Audiencia Nacional. The national investigation is examining whether there was a “clear and indubitable favorable management” from Morocco that allowed for the mass entry of migrants, which the judge described as a “criminal conduct allegedly committed abroad that has seriously attacked the territorial integrity of Spain.”

The complaints, filed by groups including Manos Limpias, Vox, and Hazte Oír, allege several crimes by Pérez Triano, including prevarication, omission of the duty to prosecute crimes, denial of assistance, and homicide or injuries through gross negligence. These allegations stem from the handling of intelligence warnings from the CNI prior to the mass entry of over 80,000 people.
