Ausl di Modena finds no significant health risk from Solignano ceramic emissions

The Public Health Department of the Ausl di Modena has released a technical report regarding odor emissions from the ceramic industrial hub in Solignano. The assessment concludes that there is no significant health risk to the population resulting from prolonged exposure to the substances detected in the area.

The analysis was based on monitoring data collected by companies throughout 2024 and 2025, alongside processing by Arpae. Even when applying an extremely cautious scenario—assuming all plants emitted maximum levels of chemical pollutants and odors simultaneously—the concentrations do not reach levels capable of causing significant chronic health risks.

While the report notes that odors are not inherently toxic, it does not rule out short-term irritative disturbances, particularly for sensitive individuals. Because olfactory discomfort can impact quality of life, the Ausl has recommended continued monitoring and the implementation of further solutions to reduce emissions.
