Australia advances renewable energy with new solar and battery projects

Australia is seeing significant progress in its renewable energy sector with two major solar and battery projects reaching key milestones.

In Western Australia, Frontier Energy has commenced the construction phase for the Waroona renewable energy project. Working with EPC contractor Monford Group, the company has begun site mobilisation. Stage One of the development includes a 132MW solar facility and an 81.5MW/6.9-hour battery energy storage system. Earthworks for internal access tracks are expected to begin in October, with solar array piling scheduled for December and the installation of solar panels starting in February 2027.

In Victoria, the Carwarp Energy Park near Mildura has reached substantial completion ahead of schedule. Owned by Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar, the 150MW solar farm is the final project from the state’s 2018 renewable energy auction series. The site is designed to eventually become a solar and battery hybrid project, with existing approvals for a 120MW battery. The project utilized 243,000 Canadian Solar TOPCon modules and was completed by contractors including Gransolar.
