Australia disability advocacy report finds no progress on key Royal Commission reforms
Three years after the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability released its final report, a coalition of over 20 advocacy organizations has issued an independent progress report. The findings indicate that none of the ten specific recommendations examined have been fully implemented.
The report highlights that four recommendations show no significant action, while coordination of support under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is reportedly regressing. The original Royal Commission, established in 2019, was Australia’s longest-running and most expensive inquiry, costing nearly A$600 million and producing 222 recommendations across 12 volumes.
