Australia implements new biometric visa requirements for Indian applicants
The Australian government has expanded its biometric collection requirements for visa applicants in India, effective October 26, 2026. Under the new regulations, certain applicants may be required to provide fingerprints and facial images to enhance identity verification and reduce fraud within the migration system.
Australian High Commissioner Philip Green stated that the changes apply only to new applications submitted on or after the effective date and will not impact visas already granted or applications currently in process. The Department of Home Affairs will notify eligible applicants via email with specific instructions.
Depending on individual circumstances, applicants may need to visit one of 16 Australian Biometrics Collection Centres in India, managed by VFS Global, or utilize the Australian Immi App. The government noted that these measures aim to maintain a secure and trusted visa process as people-to-people links between Australia and India continue to grow.
