Australia is implementing new energy initiatives to manage solar power, though industry experts and consumer advocates have raised concerns regarding market stability and costs.

The federal government's Solar Sharer Scheme, launched in regions including New South Wales, South-East Queensland, and South Australia, provides households with three hours of free electricity daily during peak solar production. While intended to benefit renters and apartment dwellers by sharing the advantages of rooftop solar, analysts warn that higher rates outside these free windows could increase overall electricity bills.

Simultaneously, a report by solar design software company Pylon indicates mixed results for the solar installation industry regarding battery rebates. While the Cheaper Home Batteries Program has boosted business for some, over 25% of direct installers reported seeing no financial benefit. The report suggests that rebates may disproportionately favor larger retailers over smaller installers and warns that the potential end of these subsidies poses a significant threat to business viability.
