Australian Army upgrades bridging and amphibious logistics capabilities
The Australian Army is enhancing its amphibious and bridging capabilities through new procurement agreements. Birdon is supplying three next-generation Bridge Erection Boats (BEBs) to the Army. This capability originated from an Australian-designed program in 2003 and has since expanded into global markets, including the United States.
Additionally, Kongsberg Maritime has reached an agreement with Austal Defence Shipbuilding Australia to provide Kamewa Steel Series waterjets for the Army’s new Landing Craft Medium (LCM) fleet. The program involves 18 vessels to be constructed at Austal’s shipyards in Western Australia. These steel-hulled craft will be capable of transporting payloads of up to 80 tonnes, providing significant amphibious logistics support.
