Australian cattle markets show strength amid rainfall and rising demand

Cattle sales in Bowen and Maitland have demonstrated resilience, with strong demand for steers and females driving prices upward. In Bowen, young steers reached $1300 per head, while top heifers sold for up to $1320. Local producers are utilizing these sales to bypass high freight and fuel costs associated with transporting livestock over long distances.

In Maitland, recent rainfall has bolstered buyer confidence, leading to a solid market despite a decrease in yarded cattle. Prices for cows and calves averaged $2530, reflecting an increase of approximately $200 to $300 compared to the previous month. The heifer market also showed significant strength, supported by improved weather conditions that have provided relief from previous drought concerns.
