Australian Minister Seeks Probe of Gaza Flotilla Abuse by Israel

Australia’s foreign minister said the government backs activists who took part in a humanitarian flotilla bound for Gaza and reported mistreatment while in Israeli custody. The activists claim they were subjected to physical aggression, humiliation and other ill‑treatment after Israeli forces intercepted their vessels. The minister urged that the testimonies be taken seriously and that any possible human‑rights violations be investigated, noting that Australia has raised diplomatic concerns about the treatment of its citizens. Israeli officials rejected the allegations, stating that detainees were handled according to established procedures. The dispute has added to diplomatic tensions surrounding the Gaza conflict and the naval blockade of the territory.
