Australian Government Criticized Over Cash Distribution Bill and New Tax Reforms

The Australian Labor government introduced the Cash Distribution Framework Bill, giving the Reserve Bank of Australia and the ACCC authority to intervene if cash distribution is disrupted. Critics say the bill could obligate taxpayers to a $400 million safety net for the Armaguard cash logistics firm, shifting risk from banks to the public.

Separately, budget reforms set to take effect on 1 July 2027 will limit negative gearing to newly‑built residential properties, while existing investors retain current treatment. Analysts warn the changes may widen the intergenerational wealth gap by favouring established owners and increasing reliance on family wealth, potentially affecting housing affordability and rental supply.
