Australian nurse Chani Knopf dies after car accident in Italy

Chani Knopf, a 32-year-old Australian registered nurse, has died following a car accident in Italy. Ms. Knopf, who worked in the Emergency Department at Gosford Hospital in New South Wales, was holidaying in the northern Italian town of Montagnana to attend a wedding when she was struck by a vehicle at a pedestrian crossing.

After sustaining catastrophic injuries, she was airlifted to Padua University Hospital and placed in a coma. Despite medical efforts, she passed away on September 3. Her parents traveled to Italy to be with her during her final moments, and her friends remained by her bedside until her death.

A GoFundMe campaign has been established by her best friend to assist Ms. Knopf’s family with the financial burdens resulting from the tragedy.
