Death of Australian nurse in Italy accident
Overview
Chani Knopf, a 32-year-old Australian registered nurse, died following a vehicle accident in Montagnana, Italy. Ms. Knopf, who worked at Gosford Hospital and was a University of Wollongong graduate, was holidaying in northern Italy to attend a wedding when she was struck by a car at a pedestrian crossing.
After sustaining catastrophic injuries and a brain injury, she was airlifted to Padua University Hospital. She remained in a coma until her death on September 3, surrounded by her parents and friends. Following her passing, it was noted that she continued to impact others through organ donation. Friends and family have established a fundraiser to assist her parents with the financial burdens of the tragedy.
